The Lakbay Jose Rizal @150 is a unique initiative launched by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the Departement of Tourism and other local government units. This is to commemorate the sesquicentennial of Jose P. Rizal's birth.
Rizal barely spent a full day in Dumaguete but he still managed to accomplish a lot. While his family went around the town, he met with the local officials, visited Mr. Herrero Regidor who was his old classmate and performed on eye operation in the afternoon.
One hundred and fifty years ago, Jose P. Rizal was born in Calamba, Laguna. This man had an interesting childhood, earned good education in the country and abroad, and later on wrote 2 novels that sparked the 1986 Philippine revolution.
