McDonald’s non-app Angry Birds toys
I wanted to watch The Angry Birds Movie when it was still shown in cinemas here in Cebu. This was largely fueled by my nostalgia for the wildly successful mobile game and also some bit of curiosity as to how the film creators created a story out of it.
Unfortunately, I missed the movie because I thought that it would be screened this June. I only realized this mistake when McDonald’s Philippines sent me their Angry Bird Happy Meal toys last weekend. After I opened the package, I then checked local cinema schedules and found out that none of them show the movie anymore.
These toys I guess will be the closest Angry Bird Movie experience I will have in the meantime. The limited edition set consist of 10 different designs: Light-Up Red, Speedster Chuck, Lasso Pig and slingshot launchers featuring Red, Bomb, Stella, Terence, Leonard, Cowboy Pig and Pilot Pig.
And yes, the green pigs and the feisty avian warriors have actual names. I can only imagine how each sounded in the movie as the voice cast is quite impressive – Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, Sean Penn and Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage, among many others.
While I was tinkering with the Angry Birds slingshot launchers, these somehow reminded me of my only G.I. Joe toy back in the day. The action figure had a spring-loaded missile which I used to hit my Lego guy. The Happy Meal toys operate similarly, but with pigs and birds launched in a projectile towards various targets.
The physics behind all these is something I hope that today’s techie kids will find interesting. But I can completely understand that it can be tiring to build fallen targets all over again. That’s why I won’t be surprised that they might go back to the game app which will only require one finger swipe.
McDonald’s also offers Angry Birds-themed desserts namely Red’s Cotton Candy McFlurry, Piggies’ Oreo Matcha McFlurry, and Bomb’s Black Sesame McDip.
