Maven’s Heart Fund

With his innocent smile and bright eyes, seven-month old Maven Ross Y. Amora definitely has what it takes to star in a baby commercial. I had the privilege of meeting this little angel in person when he was brought by his dad, a former colleague of mine and his mom, my financial adviser, to Eastwood a week ago.

Despite of what Maven is going through, he still smiles at you like you are the most awesome thing he has seen at that moment. You see, he is diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect which is the most common cause of blue baby syndrome. He is very sick that is why he needs an open heart surgery at the soonest time possible.

The complicated medical procedure comes with a high cost though. But this is where we could help Maven take a better chance at life. Here are some of the practical ways where we could extend our help:

  • Give sacrificially to the Maven’s Heart Fund. I provided some sites and contact information below as to how you could send in your contribution.
  • Recommend this blog entry in your social networking sites so that many more could know about Maven’ story. You could also follow Maven on Twitter and Facebook for updates such as the total amount that has already been raised and other fund-raising activities.
  • Pray for Maven’s successful operation and recuperation. The doctors and medicine can only do so much, but we have to trust that our good Lord will take it from here, even before the actual surgery.

The Wikipedia entry on Tetralogy of Fallot states that ‘patients who have undergone total surgical repair have improved hemodynamics and often have good to excellent cardiac function.’ This could be one reason why Shaun White, the champion snowboarder who had a cameo in the movie Friends With Benefits, has been reaping one Olympic medal after the other.

I imagine that when Maven reaches the right age, he could probably engage in extreme sports or star in a film someday. The possibilities are endless. But at this point in time, Maven has to fight a battle. Thankfully, he doesn’t have to fight this one on his own.

He likes museums, spicy food and talking with habal-habal drivers. For now, he's still deciding on whether to play Pokémon GO or not.
